Important! Entering scores for pairs matches

When entering the scores for a pairs match on CricHQ, the total number of runs entered MUST be the NET total (ie the total number of runs scored, less 5 runs for each wicket lost). The number of wickets lost is entered in the normal way.

For example, if a team scores 250 runs and loses 3 wickets, the score should be entered as 235 for 3.

The final was a rematch of Week 7 in Pool 3 when Watford Town had prevailed in a 14 run victory over Chorleywood. Both managers were expecting a nail biter and the match did not disappoint.

Chorleywood elected to bowl first and started strongly with 3 wickets in the opening overs. Watford then settled and started to accumulate some runs through the next two pairings leaving the game finely balanced at 232-6 after three pairs. Watford’s last pair put Chorleywood’s closing bowlers to the sword with some aggressive hitting to set a very fine 268 to win.

Bearing in mind that no team had managed more than 250 against Watford’s very strong bowling attack, Chorleywood set about their batting determined to lose as few wickets as possible. At the halfway point the score was 231-3 and the game was once again in the balance. With one over left, the score was 261-3 and the umpires were checking what might happen in a tie!

Deciding just to get on with it, the situation was no clearer as, with one ball left, Chorleywood were in a position where one run would tie the game and anything more was a win. One last heave off the middle of the bat resulted in a boundary and a win for Chorleywood.

All the boys played with fantastic spirit and high levels of skill to set up such a great finale. Well done to all of them! Credit must also go to Hatfield Hyde CC for two fantastic pitches and four great umpires.
