Finals Day

Sunday 9th July

Radlett and Bushey met in the final of the U13A competition with the sides having overcome Hertford and St Albans respectively in their semi finals. Radlett's 1 wicket win was against a particularly spirited and improving Hertford team and credit to both teams that a tight game was played in such fine spirit.

The final brought together 2 sides who know each other very well having already contested three matches over the season. Radlett won the toss and elected to bat first, a very wise choice from Captain Noah Cornwell on a day where rising temperatures made it a very long 20 overs in the field.

Bushey's opening bowlers started very well with some economical and testing spells from Purab Garg and Rishi Chauhan. Radlett's batsmen in the form of Alex Liddell and Yash Patel gradually got in to their stride however and Liddell in particular was in destructive mood reaching 30 retired in quick time. After Yash Patel was dismissed for 17, there were good contributions from Bilal Hassan (14) and Noah Cornwell (11) though Bushey never quite let Radlett get away. Rishi Chauhan returned to fnish his 4 overs and returned impressive figures of 1 for 5 off his 4 overs with Radlett reaching 111-9.

Bushey's batsmen were looking for a good start but Noah Cornwell decided that this was his moment to step up and he produced the match winning spell of bowling including a wicket with the first ball of the innings. His 3 quick wickets and one from Netten Jeganathan left Bushey in a spot of trouble at 14-4. To their great credit, Mehta (10), Saluja (22) and Chauhan (17*) re-built the innings in fine style but they were never really able to threaten the Radlett total given the fine bowling and fielding performance from Radlett. Pick of the bowlers were Cornwell (3-9), Ritvik Halder (1-9) and Calum Lloyd (4-2).

Great credit goes to both teams for the good spirit in which the match was played and all four sides on the day produced some fine moments. Thanks to Shenley CC for their great hospitality and for providing the facilities and umpires on the day.

U13A qualifiers

The line-up for the quarter finals is as follows:

St. Albans v Berkhamsted

Radlett v Bishop’s Stortford

Hertford v Redbourn

St Margaretsbury v Bushey

Please post the results as soon as the gamnes are p[layer.

Good luck!

Andrew

From the results it is clear that the following teams will qualify to play in the quarter finals:

Hertford, St Margaretsbury, Bishop’s Stortford, St Albans, Redbourn, Radlett, Bushey and Berkhamsted.

However, I cannot say who is playing who until I have the result of Radlett v Chorleywood (playing on 1st July).   Also the result of Datchworth v St Albans (played 24th June) needs to be posted so I can get the clubs in the right order.

The q/f home teams are likely to be St. Albans, Radlett, Hertford, and St. Margaretsbury, and I will get confirmation when those results come in.

So you will have to be patient until Sunday afternoon.  In the meantime I suggest you familiarise yourselves with the rules about arranging the quarter finals, which can be found in the handbook.

Thanks

Bushey v Harpenden

In the glorious summer setting of Berkhamsted Cricket Club we were treated to a fantastic cricket final.

Bushey won the toss and elected to bat. A very good batting display saw Bushey post a score of 138-6.

The Harpenden batting innings ebbed and flowed and it all got very tight at the end. Harpenden finished

142-6 off 19.5 overs completing an exciting and great run chase.

The match was played in excellent spirit throughout and credit to both teams for putting on such super displays.

Big thanks to Mark Lewarne and his team at Berkhamsted for hosting such a great finals day.
