U12B County Final - Berkhamsted 298 for 8 v Chipperfield 283 for 8 This was an even contest against a strong Chipperfield team who bowled and fielded brilliantly. Berkhamsted batted first and made steady progress but were 242-6 after 10 overs. An excellent last partnership by Justin Fisher and James Prendergast of 32 off 4 overs enabled the boys to reach a respectable 298-8. A mention has to go to a couple of the outstanding catches taken in the deep by the Chipperfield boys - most adults wouldn’t have taken them. Justin top scored with 18 not out. The Berkhamsted bowling was outstanding and Chipperfield found it difficult to score early on with only 26 runs coming from the first 8 overs. Connal Clarke and Tom Hoad bowled very tightly and James Prendergast and Kiran Maheswaran made it difficult for Chipperfield to get going. Jack Eyles was the pick of the bowlers though with 3 wickets for 16 runs. Chipperfield accelerated their batting and looked to be in with a good chance of getting over the line until they lost a late flurry of wickets in the last 4 overs with the Berkhamsted boys setting a deep field, cutting off the boundaries and fielding superbly. A couple of exceptional pieces of fielding, one a brilliant stop of a ball heading for 4 by Jack Eyles and then hitting the wicket with a great throw to run out the batter and the other a great combination between Ryan Friend and Connal Clarke to force another run out. In the end this tipped the game Berkhamsted’s way as Chipperfield fell 15 short of their target. Max Bartlett kept wicket superbly all day so a big thank-you for stepping up from the U11s and taking on the job. Overall a good close game played in very hot weather.

It was proposed at the Club Forum in September 2015 and confirmed at the HJL AGM in 2016 that the U12B competition would change in format to be come a 10-a-side Pairs hard ball competition.

The League rules have been amended to reflect this change. It is hoped that this will encourage players to continue playing who may well have given up at the change to 11-a-side cricket.
